Sixty deportees being quizzed

GUJRANWALA, Oct 17: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) is questioning more than 60 people, who were deported by Turkey, arrested by the FIA Gujranwala passport cell from Islamabad and brought here on Wednesday.

According to a report, most deportees belong to Gujranwala, Gujrat and Mandi Bahauddin districts.

A local court has granted physical remand of the deportees who have told the FIA about the agents who extorted hundreds of thousands of rupees from them to send them abroad and later handed them to subagents on the Turkish border.

The Turkish border security arrested them and kept them in detention before deporting them to Pakistan.

ROBBERS INJURE TWO: Robbers injured two people during a robbery bid on GT Road near Aujalan Kalan on Wednesday.

Four brothers of Wazirabad’s Budha Rajawa village were returning home from their sister’s house in Langianwali village when four robbers on Aujalan Kalan canal bridge told them to stop.

The man in the driving seat ignored robbers’ signal and robbers opened fire on the car. As a result, Sheraz was injured and the robbers fled. Hearing the noise, people from the nearby village reached the scene and chased the robbers. In defence, robbers opened fire on the chasers and injured Munawwar.

HOUSE LOOTED: Robbers looted valuables from a lawyer’s house and took away two motorcycles in another hit on Wednesday.

Three robbers stormed into Saleem’s house in Model Town, locked the family in a room and fled with Rs250,000 in cash, 150-tola gold ornaments and two cell phones.

Separately, robbers deprived property dealer Tariq Hanif and trader Mushtaq of their motorcycles and cell phones on Sheikhupura Road.
