TOBA TEK SINGH, March 20: The district Nazim has imposed a ban on pillion riding in the revenue limits of the district.

A press release issued here on Wednesday said holidays and leaves of government employees had also been cancelled from March 23 to 25.

The army had also been called out to maintain peace during Muharram.

FAISALABAD: The district Nazim has imposed a ban on pillion-riding despite an announcement by the chief secretary that the government has no plan about the same.

Following the ban, police rounded up some 29 people from various parts of the city and rural areas besides impounding their motorcycles. Traffic police also arrested a number of pillion-riders, but majority of them was set free on the instructions of highups after giving them a warning.

According to police sources, the ban had been imposed only for seven days.

Meanwhile, police contingents have started patrolling commercial and residential areas of the city and its suburbs to avoid any untoward incident during Muharram.
