HARIPUR, March 20: The chief of Jamiat Ulema-i-Pakistan and Milli Yakjehti Council, Maulana Shah Ahmed Noorani, has forewarned the military rulers of impending harm to the sovereignty of the country if they failed to hold general elections on time.

Talking to newsmen at the residence of the former chief minister and PML president Pir Sabir Shah in Shataloo Sharief on Tuesday, he said it would cause immense harm to the country in case the military regime drifted from the Supreme Court verdict in this regard and urged the rulers to abide by the court verdict.

The two leaders discussed the socio-political scenario of the country besides the possibilities for an alliance of the religio-political parties.

In reply to a question, the JUP chief accused the government of promoting secular culture and supporting anti-ideology elements in the country at the behest of the United States.

He vowed to resist anti-Islam and anti-Pakistan moves with a stronger, grand alliance of religious and right wing parties. He stressed the need for an alliance of the pro-Pakistan and pro-ideology parties which, he said, was prerequisite to steer the country out of simmering anarchy.

In reply to another question, Allama Noorani condemned the grenade attack on the International Protestant Church in Islamabad and termed it the worst kind of terrorism and a conspiracy of anti-Islam and anti-Pakistan forces.
