MELBOURNE, Oct 6: Leg-spin icon Shane Warne is hoping to play a big part in creating an Australian spin dynasty by considering a job with the Cricket Australia (CA) to nurture the next generation spinners.

The world’s most successful Test bowler, who has a contract with English County Hampshire and is also expected to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in April, has been talking to CA Operation Manager Michael Brown since his return from Britain last week. “I am speaking to CA at the moment about how we can best utilise my skills and my experiences of the game and how we can get around to all the states and help other spinners, talk to captains,” Warne said. “We’re just working out the best way to do it, with time restraints as well, in season, out of season, all that stuff. Hopefully, I can play a big part,” Warne, 38, said.

CA is aiming to strike an agreement with Warne for the coming season although the details of the position are yet to be completed.

“We would bite like a starving snapper if there was an opportunity to have him involved,” said CA spokesman Peter Young. —Agencies
