ISLAMABAD, Oct 4: The executive director (ED) of the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) has informed the health ministry that he is no more willing to hold the post due to personal reasons, sources told Dawn.

The sources said the Pims chief had given the notice after his failure to manoeuvre further extension on the post.

The Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC) in a letter to the health ministry on Thursday said Dr Hadi’s contract should not be extended.

The letter said the commission had not recommended Dr Hadi and also opposed his appointment as Pims executive director earlier, the sources said.

In the letter to the federal health secretary, the Pims chief said his contract would end on November 2.

When contacted, Dr Hadi said he had not written any letter to the health ministry for leaving the top post of the hospital. “I am thinking to leave the post in future but not now,” he added.

However, federal secretary health Khushnood Akhter Lashari, when contacted, told Dawn that he had received the letter in which the ED Pims had said he was no more interested in continuing the job.

According to the law, he added, the government servant should give a notice of 30 days before leaving the post, adding after that period he was free to relinquish the job. Dr Hadi was appointed as ED Pims in 2003 for two years. Originally, orders were issued for the appointment of Dr Majeed Rajput on the post. However, Dr Hadi manoeuvred his appointment through his well-placed contacts.
