Clarification

KARACHI, Sept 27: Manager Human Resource, Duty Free Shops Limited, Sheheryar Chaudri, has claimed that the Duty-Free Shops has not imported a single piece of LCD and Plasma TV sets in the last five years.

The Duty Free Shops Ltd had not been selling the LCD and Plasma TV sets at all our outlets at Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad and Sialkot, he said.

Responding to Dawn’s story titled “smuggling of LCD TV sets on the rise,” appearing in our issue of Sept 23, he said whenever local manufacturers or dealers get a smell of competition from another source, they start screaming to seek government’s protection instead of competing themselves in the market.

This time they blame for cheaper plasma and LCD TV sets on duty free shops because they once again want government’s protection to help their higher profit-taking and not offering better prices to customers.
