KARACHI, Sept 21: Pakistan Post is issuing a postage stamp on Saturday (today) to commemorate the first anniversary of the third meeting of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) held in Istanbul, Turkey on Sept 22, 2006.

The multicolour Rs10 stamp, printed at the Pakistan Security Printing Corporation, will be available for sale at all important post offices in the country from Saturday. The first day issue covers and leaflets having information regarding the stamp have also been printed.

The ECO is an inter-governmental regional organization established by Iran, Turkey and Pakistan in 1985 to promote economic, technical and cultural cooperation among the member states.

In 1992 seven new members – Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan – joined the ECO, which is the successor organization to the Regional Cooperation for Development (RCD) Pact.
