LAHORE, Oct 21: The Lahore district government will soon set up a school for O-level students which will be accessible for the middle and lower middle classes, district Nazim Mian Amer Mahmood said here on Sunday.

Talking to reporters, he said that there were many talented students whose parents could not afford to take them to private educational institutions because of the high fees charged there.

The proposed institution, he said, would be ideal for such people.

Mian Amer said although one institution would not be sufficient to accommodate all students he was referring to, more such institutions would be set up in the future.

He has also issued instructions to the relevant authorities that a uniform calender should be prepared for all 1,500 government schools in the provincial metropolis. This means that all institutions would be duty-bound to cover equal syllabus by a particular time.

The district nazim said that at present there was no uniformity in this respect, and while some schools were close to covering the entire syllabus, others might only be thinking of starting it. This situation, he said, was not fair from the students point of view.

Mian Amer said the entire syllabus would be equally distributed over the year so that there was no burden either on students or on teachers.

He has also proposed the establishment of associations of teachers and parents at school and college level for better coordination between them.

At a meeting here on Sunday, the district Nazim also issued instructions that all dispensaries should have all medicines necessary for basic medical needs.
