KARACHI : KUJ slams anti-media remarks

Published September 14, 2007

KARACHI, Sept 13: The Karachi Union of Journalists has expressed shock and concern over growing intolerance of political parties and pressure groups and threats hurled over media reporting not in line with their views and aspirations.

In a statement, the union vowed to jealously guard freedom of the press and security of journalists and said that the community had always been ready for accountability in accordance with accepted procedures.

The statement urged political leaders to resort to legal remedies, instead of encouraging their supporters to take the law into their own hands and ‘punish’ journalists for reports they considered to be unfavourable.—Our Reporter
