MULTAN, March 16: Classes have yet not been started in nine girls middle and primary schools which were built in the city 14 months ago with a cost of Rs8 million.

The schools were constructed at Budhpur, Mehmoodabad, Wariswala, Faizabad, Islam Nagar, Belaywala, Lootharwala, Hafiz Wala and Basti Baranwala localities under the Annual Development Programme.

Residents of these areas had been demanding the construction of girls schools for their children had to attend to their schools in far-flung areas. But despite their construction, the education department has failed to make these schools functional.

When contacted, the district education officer (girls elementary) said schools could not be started till the recruitment of required number of teachers.

The DEO office were however making efforts to make these schools functional as early as possible, she said.

Two injured: Two workers were injured in a factory fire on Vehari Road on Friday night.

The condition of Bashir and Liaquat was stated to be critical at the Nishtar Hospital.

Fire fighters could extinguish the flames in seven hours owing to non-availability of water in nearby canal.
