HYDERABAD, March 16: Black day was observed on Saturday in the educational institutions of Sindh on the call of the Sindh Employees Alliance against the alleged anti-education, anti-students and anti-peoples’ policies of the Sindh education department.
Black flags were hoisted at the educational institutions and the teachers boycotted the academic and non-academic activities and held protest meetings at the taluka headquarters.
The protest meetings held in Hyderabad adopted several resolutions demanding the appointment of an educationist as the education secretary. The meetings criticized the performance of the Sindh education minister who had taken no steps during the last three years to improve the educational system.
The meetings accused the education minister of favouring her inefficient nationalized cadre colleagues.
Adds Our Sukkur Correspondent: On the call of the Sindh Employees Alliance, the teachers of the primary schools boycotted the classes in Bagarji, Salehpat, Pano Aqil, Rohri, and other parts of Sukkur district to express their resentment over the termination of five employees of the district.
According to a press release issued by the Primary Teachers Association (PTA), a protest meeting was also held at Bagarji, Pano Aqil, Salehpat, where the speakers demanded the reinstatement of the teachers, who were the office-bearers of the PTA, and the withdrawal of the criminal cases registered against other teachers.
The meeting warned to continue the protest till the acceptance of the demands.
Meanwhile, partial boycott of the classes in the colleges was also observed in Sukkur and other parts of interior Sindh.
According to a press release issued by the SPLA, a protest meeting was held at the Islamia College, Sukkur, in which it was demanded that the terminated employees should be reinstated and that the notification of the demands accepted at the meeting with the chief secretary, should be issued.
Our Shikarpur Correspondent adds: On the call of the SEA a protest rally was taken out by the All Sindh Primary Teachers Association against the removal of primary teachers in Sukkur on Saturday.
The protesters while marching on main roads reached the press club where they staged a demonstration.
Our Dadu Correspondent adds: On the call of the SEA the teachers boycotted their classes in primary boys and girls schools at different towns of the district on Saturday.
