KARACHI, Sept 12: The Regional Tax Office (RTO) has set up 50 “Tax help kiosks” in different commercial centres in the 18 towns of Karachi as part of its campaign to increase the number of taxpayers.

According to a press release, 14 teams, each headed by an additional commissioner and comprising deputy commissioners, assistant commissioners, inspectors and clerical staff, have been formed to implement the plan.

According to the director-general of RTO, Karachi, the government has also given a number of incentives to taxpayers. If the annual income of a person from business is Rs100,000, there would be no liability on him. The income above the threshold would be taxable under a new revised slab system which starts from 0.5 per cent.

He said for retailers the incentives included the following: “If the annual turnover was over Rs10 million or daily income Rs27,397, the taxpayer would be required to pay Rs192 per day.” Besides, the taxpayer would be exempted from sales tax.
