HYDERABAD, March 15: The National Unity Council Sindh, Pakistan Oppressed Nations Movement (Ponam), at a meeting held at the Taraqqi Passand House on Thursday, has condemned the aggressive designs of Punjab and the policies of the federal government.
The president, Ponam, Sindh Chapter, and the chairman, Sindh Taraqqi Passand Party (STPP), Dr. Qadir Magsi presided over the meeting.
The meeting observed that all the policies of the Punjabi rulers were aimed at destroying Sindh.
Strongly protesting against the approval of the greater Thal canal, the council termed it “a matter of life and death for Sindh”, and added that the Punjabi rulers had violated all constitutional, legal and moral norms and committed the shameful act of thrusting this decision on Sindh.
It resolved to resist the construction of the greater Thal canal and the aggressive designs of Punjab at all forums and every front regardless of the consequences.
The meeting made it clear that the federal government, Punjab, Wapda, and Punjabi bureaucrats would be held responsible for “disastrous consequences”.
Expressing satisfaction over the response received from the people during the movement against the Thal canal, the council decided that the Sindh high command of Ponam would contact the growers, Haris, political and social welfare organizations, intellectuals, writers, and technocrats to mobilize public opinion for launching a consistent struggle against the Thal canal project.
Those who attended the meeting included the president, Sindh Hari Committee, Azhar Jatoi, the chairman, Sindh National Congress, Dr G.M. Bhurgari, SNF leaders Ayub Sher and Wali Mohammed, Sindh Thinkers Forum leaders Syed Ghulam Shah, Mir Maula Bux Laghari, and Inam Bhatti, the president, JUI, Sindh, Maulana Ubaidullah Bhutto, the chairman, Sindh Analysis and Research Council, Mansoor Qadir Junejo, the chairman, Jeay Sindh Quamparast Party, Qamar Bhatti, and STPP leader Haider Shahani.
