Jannat Bibi and Kaneez Fatima died on the spot while six others -- Azra Bibi, Sobia Bibi, Saima Bibi, Iqbal, Javed and Sarfraz -- were injured. They were admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital in critical condition.

The incident took place at Chak 398-JB, Jamani area, about eight kilometres from here.

At Chak 482-JB, Jhang, Muhammad Iqbal and his 15-year-old daughter died when the roof fell on them. Iqbal’s wife suffered injuries and was admitted to Shorkot hospital in critical condition.

Two persons (of Chak 398-JB) were injured when a tree fell on them. Masood and Shakoor were on their way home from farmland by a tractor. They were admitted to the DHQ hospital.

Hundreds of trees uprooted in the district as a result of which traffic remained in chaos on various roads. Electricity poles too fell in many villages, disrupting power supply. At many places power supply could not be restored even 20 hours after the lashing rain began.

Reports of several people getting injured after signboards and trees fell on them poured in.
