PESHAWAR, Sept 3: Mr Justice Jehanzeb Raheem of Peshawar High Court on Monday denied bail to a man charged with selling his married sister to another man, and observed that the accused did not deserve any leniency.

According to police, Sabir Sajjad had swindled Darweza Khan of Kohistan of Rs. 120,000 and handed over his sister in ‘marriage’ to him. Later, however, Sabir reached a settlement with Darweza Khan and returned his money and the latter ‘pardoned’ him.

The court, however, said that the accused could not reach a settlement for the kind of offence he had been charged with.

According to the prosecution, two other accused in the case, Yahya and his brother Ziaur Rehman, are absconding.

The prosecution claimed that the accused had sold his sister, Aasia, to Darweza, concealing the fact that she was a married woman. Their Nikah was performed and the woman was sent to Darweza’s home.

But Aasia is reported to have informed her ‘second husband’ about her previous marriage and said that the marriage was illegal and un-Islamic.
