Resistance costs life of infant

SIALKOT, Sept 3: Dacoits shot dead an infant girl and injured her two brothers here on Monday near Salhokey-Daska.

Reports said Muhammad Asif (15), his brother Zeeshan (8) and 15-month-old sister Layiba riding a motorcycle were on their way home after getting medicine from a clinic.

Near Salhokey, the robbers intercepted them and tried to snatch valuables. As the two brothers offered resistance, the dacoits opened fire, killing Layiba on the spot and injuring Asif and Zeeshan.

The injured were referred to Lahore from Daska THQ Civil Hospital due to their critical condition.

Daska Saddar police have registered a case, with no arrest.

People strongly protested over the incident and demanded immediate arrest of the accused.

Meanwhile, Punjab Industries Minister Muhammad Ajmal Cheema and Sialkot District Nazim Akmal Cheema have directed DPO Muhammad Ameen to ensure early arrest of the culprits.

MENINGITIS: One Parveen Bibi, 15, died of meningitis here on Monday in Gujjar Town.

The district health officials confirmed that the girl died of meningitis. They said special teams were busy in searching any other meningitis patient in the area.
