SCBA poll schedule announced

ISLAMABAD, Sept 2: The annual elections of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) will be held on Oct 27.

This was decided by the association’s executive committee which met here on Sunday under SCBA president Munir A. Malik.

Secretary of the bar association Zulfiqar Bukhari said that members, clearing their dues by Sept 20, would be entitled to cast their votes.

According to the election schedule, final voters’ list would be published on Sept 29, nomination papers could be submitted between Oct 1 and Oct 4 while they would be scrutinised on Oct 5.

Provisional candidates’ list would be published on Oct 6 and Oct 8 is the last date for filing of appeals against acceptance or rejection of nomination papers.

These appeals will be decided on Oct 9. Oct 11 will be the last date for withdrawal of candidature while the final list of the candidates will be issued on Oct 12.

Polls will be held on Oct 27 and unofficial counting of votes will take place on the same day. The official count of votes will be held on Oct 31.

Over 1,500 advocates of the Supreme Court from all over the country will exercise their right to vote to office-bearers of the association.

Polling stations will be set up at the association’s bar rooms in the Supreme Court buildings in Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar and Quetta besides bar rooms of the High Court Bar Associations at Bahawalpur, Multan and Abbottabad.

According to the rotation system, this year, the president of the association will be elected from Punjab.
