LAHORE, Aug 31: A ruling Pakistan Muslim League member of the Punjab Assembly has urged Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi to become president of the party and lead the elections campaigning at the national level.

In a statement on Friday, Mian Ata Muhammad Maneka, an MPA from PP-227, Pakpattan, said Pervaiz Elahi should be the party candidate for the office of prime minister after the general elections.

He said the party would face a tough contest during the forthcoming elections and a dynamic leader only could ensure success.

Chaudhry Shujaat, he said, would not be able to mobilise the party across the country because of his health problems.

Maneka said Mr Shujaat should be made ‘Rahbar’ of the party owing to his seniority and services.
