KARACHI: NAB accused gets bail

KARACHI, Aug 31: A division bench of the High Court of Sindh on Friday granted bail to an accused facing charges in a reference made by the National Accountability Bureau about an alleged massive tax fraud.

The bench consisting of Justice Mohammad Afzal Soomro and Justice Rehmat Hussain Jaffery granted bail to Raja Zarat.

The applicant/accused is chairman of the Bawan Shah Group of Companies and allegedly involved in massive tax frauds. Earlier, the bail plea was dismissed by the special appellate court for customs.

Raja Zarat Khan resigned from the Customs Department in 2002 and launched his Bawan Shah Group of Companies in 2003.

The applicant is among others accused of having obtained huge amounts of rebates and sales tax refunds on the basis of alleged illegal exports.— APP
