Karachi, PMC reach quarters

LAHORE, Aug 30: Karachi and Punjab Medical College (PMC), Faisalabad reached the quarter-finals of the 19th National Under-18 football championship here on Thursday.

Karachi became the first team to make the last-eight stage, defeating Pak Punjab 4-1 in a Group ‘D’ tie.

Karachi’s Mohsin Shah opened scoring in the 19th minute but Pak Punjab levelled through Asim Mansoor in the 40th minute. After the half-time, Atif made it 2-1 in the 52nd minute before Mohammad Yaqoob (75th minute) and Danyal Alvi (81st minute) stretched the lead to 4-1.

Meanwhile in the other championship matches played on Thursday, Faisalabad’s Punjab Medical College (PMC) edged out Balochistan Colours 1-0 in a Group B match to enter the quarter-finals, hosts Model Town Football Club recorded their first win beating Fata 4-3 in a Group ‘C’ game, Afghan FC of Chaman opened their campaign with a 3-2 win over the Northern Areas, while holders Balochistan, looking for the record fourth title in the event, lost 2-3 against Faisalabad Whites 3-2 in their first Group ‘B’ encounter.
