Antiques smuggling bid foiled

RAWALPINDI, Aug 30: Pakistan post and customs staff foiled an attempt of smuggling of a rare copy of Holy Quran, gold jewelery, statues and furniture to the United States, UK and Sharjah.

Deputy Superintendent Customs, Wasim Ahmed on Thursday said that the Customs staff spotted six suspicious parcels which were booked for the United States, UK and Sharjah. During search, the Customs staff recovered a hand written copy of Holy Quran, ornaments, statues and other household items.

According to Customs’ staff, the consignment was booked by H. Mir, a resident of sector F-6/1. The market value of the consignment is said to be in millions.
