KARACHI, Aug 29: Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai Road, one of Lyari Town’s major roads, has been completely devastated by the recent monsoon rains and so far the civic authorities have not taken any steps to drain the stagnant water on the affected section of the artery.

This situation has become a great source of irritation for commuters and pedestrians who use this vital route.

Previously known as Atmaram Pretum Das Road, it is one of the main arteries of Lyari Town linking it with Saddar, Keamari and Site towns.

Residents said that as the road had not been maintained for years, it had developed potholes in several places. They said that though work on improvement of the road started during the tenure of the former nazim, it was later abandoned for unknown reasons.

Also, before the monsoons, work on laying new sewage lines had been started but that too was left incomplete. As a result the sewerage system right from Aga Khan Maternity Hospital up to Baghdadi had collapsed and overflowing sewage continued to inundate the road.
