KARACHI, Aug 29: The Centralised Admission Policy (CAP) Committee received some 71,000 admission forms through 41 designated bank branches by Wednesday and expects over 10,000 more on Thursday, the deadline for the submission of the forms.

According to Dr Rafique Ahmed Siddiqui, chairman of the CAP committee, the banks have sold over 90,000 admission forms so far.

It is expected that the banks will witness long queues on Thursday given the fact that the committee has decided not to extend the deadline any further. It has already extended the deadline for the submission of admission forms twice.

However, Dr Siddiqui said the committee expected some 10,000 more forms from candidates as remaining candidates may get admission to private colleges.

Admission urged for all matriculates

Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal members of the National Assembly Mohammad Hussain Mehanti and Laeeq Khan have demanded that all students who have passed class X examination be given admission to colleges and more educational institutions be set up to cater to the educational needs of the big city, adds PPI.

In a joint statement issued here, they said a number of students, who passed their matriculation exams this year, were worried about their future because of the limited number of colleges. They feared that this shortage might deprive many intelligent, qualifying students of college admission.

The MNAs charged that while the number of matric students in Karachi was rising every year, the present city government was reluctant to open new colleges. They asked why the city government was so indifferent to students and not establishing new colleges or even increasing the number of seats in the existing ones.

They said former city nazim Niamatullah Khan during his tenure had given as many as 32 new colleges to Karachi, but the present city government had opened not even a single new college.
