RAWALPINDI, Aug 27: An anti-terrorism court on Monday granted bail to Majida Aziz alias Umme Hassan, wife of former chief cleric of Lal Masjid Maulana Abdul Aziz, and her daughter Tayyaba Dua in the murder case of a Rangers’ soldier.

Former ISI official Khalid Khawaja was among the 32 people granted bails in the same case.

ATC No 1 Special Judge Habibur Rehman granted the bails against a surety bond of Rs100,000 each. The order stated that the accused should be released if not wanted in any other case.

The bail applications were moved by the free legal aid committee of the District Bar Association and Maulana Aziz’s lawyer Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui.

The lawyers argued that their clients were not directly involved in the case and there was no evidence against them.

And if there was any, the government had destroyed it by demolishing Jamia Fareedia and cleaning the mosque, they said.

Public prosecutor Raja Yasin apposed the bails on the ground that the terrorism charges were not bailable.

Umme Hassan was also granted bail in two other cases. One was for threatening the owners of CD shops in the Abpara market.

The case was registered with the Abpara police station. The other case was about the abduction Chinese nationals registered with the Margalla police station.

She has been granted bail in six out of seven cases against her.

The judge also granted bail to the former ISI official who pleaded that he was only involved in reconciliatory efforts.

Others granted bails include Hayat, Mujeeb, Imran, Ishaq, Naveed, Kashif, Basit, Anas, Idrees, Sakhawat, Noor Mohammad, Safih Ullah, Abu Bakar, Saeed, Ansar, Masood, Asif, Riaz, Anayat, Fida Ullah, Abdul Latif, Nazakat, Abdul Qayyum, Afzal, Nadeem, Abdullah, Nusrat and Mohammad Nasim.
