TIMERGARA, Aug 25: Protesters blocked the highway between Timergara and Chitral for four hours on Saturday to protest against unscheduled loadshedding and low voltage in the area.

Hundreds of people chanted slogans against the Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco), blocked the highway and staged a demonstration at the Gorgori chowk near the main bazaar.

Later, the protesters staged a sit-in at a local grid station. Maulana Hamdullah, a leader of a banned militant organisation, led the rally.

Speakers criticised Pesco for unannounced loadshedding and warned it that if their problems were not resolved then they would attack the grid station.

AK-47: Police recovered two AK-47 rifles and arrested one person at a checkpoint near Mian Kali Manda on Saturday.

Police said the accused Qalim, son of Pam Jan, hailed from the Bajaur Agency and was arrested while he was on way to Timergara.
