SAHIWAL, Aug 24: Three transformers of the Multan Electric Power Company (Mepco) have broken down because of voltage fluctuation during unscheduled power outages.

The transformers of Farid Town and C-Bock on Stadium Road here and Chak No 151/9-L, a nearby village, broke down due to the voltage fluctuation which, according to Mepco sources, occurred due to abnormal supply and distribution of electricity load.

However, residents claim that the transformers were burnt due to negligence of officials concerned. Besides a two-hour scheduled power closure, Mepco is resorting to three-hour unscheduled power outages and locals have vehemently protested the company’s action.

In Kot Farid Khan, a suburban locality, consumers staged a protest demonstration against unscheduled outages.

KIDNAPPED: Two girls were kidnapped here on Thursday.

Rehmat, Iqbal and others allegedly kidnapped Aisha, who had gone to the tomb of Baba Murad Shah, while three unidentified people kidnapped Maqboolan of Mohalla Darveshpura. Police were still clueless.
