KARACHI, March 13: The Federation of All-Pakistan Universities’ Academic Staff Association, Sindh chapter, has opposed the proposed placement of a board of governors in the public sector universities.

During a meeting of the association at the University of Karachi on Wednesday, office-bearers of the association demanded that representatives of teachers’ societies in the universities should be taken into confidence prior to finalization and promulgation of the proposed ordinance, which is likely to envisage abolition of existing statutory bodies in the public sector universities.

The association called for withdrawal of ex-service personnel working on various administrative posts. The meeting resolved that the ex-servicemen should not be rehired by universities on contractual basis.

It was further demanded that the recently announced raise in the allowance of PhD teachers by the ministry of science and technology should be awarded to teachers of all faculties.

The association also demanded provision of house requisition facility to all faculty members.

The meeting was attended by association’s chairman Dr Shamsuddin Sheikh, Prof Nazimuddin Sheikh, Dr Mohammad Roshan Wagan, Dr Faheemuddin and others.
