Four Pakistanis convicted in US

NEW YORK, Aug 21: Four men of Pakistani origin were convicted on Monday by a New York State Supreme Court for breaking into a house and attacking the owner last August in an attempt to learn the location of a young Pakistani couple planning to marry against the wishes of the bride-to-be’s father, prosecutors told reporters.

The men — Azad Malik, 67; Javed Khalid, 53; Shafiq Mohammad, 41, and Hussain Sada, 29, — were convicted of first-degree burglary, Charles Hynes, the Brooklyn district attorney told the New York Times.

Mr Hynes said that the four men forced their way into the West Sixth Street home of Rana Hussain, 48, handcuffed him and punched and kicked him.

They demanded the location of Mr Hussain’s nephew, then 19, and Mr Khalid’s 15-year-old daughter, who had met at the James Madison High School and planned to marry, Mr Hynes said.
