HANGU, Aug 20: A suicide bomber rammed his explosives-laden jeep into a check post near Thall on Monday, killing himself and three paramilitary soldiers, while 16 other personnel were wounded, a senior police official said.

District Police Officer Ghulam Muhammad Khan said one woman was also killed in the subsequent exchange of fire between security forces and suspected militants.

Officials said the bomber rammed his blue-coloured four-wheeler into the check post on the Thall-Parachinar Road in the Mandori village, situated near the North Waziristan and Kurram agencies. Personnel of the Frontier Corps (FC) were manning the check post near the Kurram bridge.

Quoting some eyewitnesses and wounded personnel, police officials said the jeep appeared on the approach road connecting Miramshah with the settled area and exploded with a bang when it hit the check post. According to the witnesses, the jeep tore into pieces.

Following the explosion, heavy exchange of fire took place between the security forces and miscreants in the Mandori village in which mother of one Muhammad Rehman sustained bullet injuries. She died instantly.

In North Waziristan Agency militants fired six rockets at a paramilitary base near Mirali town on Sunday night.
