MUZAFFARGARH, Aug 20: Trade unionist and Pakistan Jute and Textile Workers Union president Malik Ghulam Abbas Langarial died of kidneys failure at his residence in Muzaffargarh on Sunday. He was 62.

The late Langarial started his political career from the National Awami Party and later joined the Pakistan People’s Party in 1969.

He was the first general secretary of the Thal Jute Mills CBA. His funeral prayer was attended by a large number of industrial workers, journalists, lawyers, relatives and friends.

INQUIRY: District Coordination Officer Dr Akhtar Nazir Warraich has made an inquiry team to probe into capsizing of a boat in the River Chenab on Aug 14.

Revenue Officer GM Riaz Kakar told Dawn that the inquiry team had begun the probe and it would complete the work in two weeks.

On Aug 14, a boat carrying 12 passengers and six motorcycles capsized and six men drowned.

In the Chenab river Park near the Chenab West Bank Railway Station, more that 10 boats were operating before the Aug 14 tragedy.
