Senior citizens’ day today

Published August 21, 2007

ISLAMABAD, Aug 20: The Senior Citizens Day is being observed on Tuesday (Aug 21). The day is an opportunity to celebrate the wisdom and achievements senior citizens have made and to advocate for the rights of older people, throughout the world.

The day is an important time to remind governments about their pledges to work towards the goal of helping to end hunger and poverty for older persons and people of all ages.

The year 1999 was celebrated as the International Year for Older Persons to promote the theme of working to create “a society for all ages.”—APP
