Nurses denied two-month stipend

SAHIWAL, Aug 18: As many as 93 under training nurses of the local nursing school have not been paid a monthly stipend of Rs5,170 per head for June and July. When contacted the local health authorities said a bill amounting to Rs961,620 for June and July had been presented to the district accounts officer who did not approve it.

The accounts officer told this correspondent that the district government had not provided funds to the effect, therefore, the bill was not approved.

Meanwhile, parents of nurses have expressed concern over the delay in payment and demanded an inquiry into the matter.

ACCIDENTS: Three people were killed and 13 others sustained injuries in traffic accidents here on Friday.

A motorcyclist Ghulam Sabir struck against a donkey car in Chak 99/6-R and died on the spot. A car overturned on GT Road near Harappa, killing one Zubair Ahmed and injuring three others.

In another incident, a wagon overturned on GT Road as a result an unidentified passenger lost his life while 10 others sustained injuries and were rushed to hospital.

SHOT DEAD: A man shot dead his brother-in-law here on Saturday at Dad Bloch village for torturing his sister.

Reports said Zubaida quarrelled with her husband Aslam and came to her parents’ house. Aslam came to bring his wife back but she refused to go with him. On this Aslam started beating her up. Hamza, brother of Zubaida, shot Aslam dead.

Noorshah police have registered a case under Section 302 of the PPC and arrested Hamza.
