KARACHI: 13,000 phones out of order

KARACHI, Aug 17: The recent heavy spell of rains in the city has left more than 13,000 telephone connections out-of-order adding to the miseries of the Karachiites. A large number of telephone subscribers from North Karachi, Azizabad, Gulistan-i-Jauhar, Korangi and Defence etc called up the newspaper office to say that there telephones have been out of order since the day it rained.

Most of the subscribers said that despite lodging several complaints with the telephone exchanges concerned their telephones had not been restored and the staff concerned did not even provide any satisfactory explanation.

Some of the telephone numbers which have gone out of order are: 6906869; 6970941; 6993135; 6931342; 6992023; 6984093; 6921905; 6921906; 6347729; 6331125; 6807599; 6348987; 6319121; 4616937; 5050306; 5068819; 5065981; 4615308; etc.

Responding to the Dawn queries, a PTCL spokesperson said that besides rains the other reason for the non-functioning of telephones was frequent power cuts which affected the optical fibre-based system.
