UPPER DIR, Aug 13: The Frontier Forest Guard, Foresters and Deputy Rangers associations have warned of taking extreme steps against timber smugglers who seriously wounded a forest guard in the Barawal area of Dir Upper.

Forest department officials barricaded the Barawal-Shahi Road at 3am after being tipped-off about the smuggling of timber.

The smugglers opened indiscriminate fire on seeing the barricade, wounding Forest Guard Liaquat Saeed.

However, the bid to smuggle timber was foiled and the vehicle and a smuggler, Mohammadullah, were taken into custody.

The other smugglers managed to escape, taking advantage of the darkness of the night.
