BADIN, Aug 11: The opposition leader in Sindh Assembly, PPP’s Nisar Ahmed Khuhro, has said that people wanted 2007 as an election year and the current political crisis could only be averted if Benazir Bhutto comes into power.

He was speaking at a public meeting in Tando Bago on Friday evening.

Khuhro said that people could not further bear the present government and wanted change.

He said, rulers might impose emergency or any other act to prolong their power but their days were numbered.

He claimed that Islamabad had imposed Arbab Ghulam Rahim as chief minister Sindh who had only one seat in the assembly. He alleged that Arbab Ghulam Rahim had injured the feelings of people of Sindh by selling Sindh's interest and he would be made accountable for these acts.

He condemned the terrorising of PPP workers and cited an example of UC Nazim Dilbar Sindhi of Tando Bago who had been arrested and victimised by police.Khuhro also expressed grief over the killing of PPP worker Manzoor Jakhro and other injured workers in a road accident.

Provincial secretary of PPP, MNA Dr Fehmida Mirza on the occasion said that as the days of elections were coming nearer, the government and some opposition leaders were engaged in “negative propaganda against PPP only to create confusion”, however, they would not succeed.
