KASUR, Aug 8: A woman, her six daughters and a son sustained serious burn injuries on Wednesday when an LPG cylinder exploded in the kitchen of their house at Habibabad, Pattoki.

Because of the explosion, the roofs of the kitchen and an adjacent room blew up and the fire engulfed the house.

Reports said Eshrat Bibi was working in the kitchen when the LPG cylinder exploded with a bang.

The fire reduced the whole household to ashes.

Eshrat Bibi, her daughters Mehvish (6), Sonia (8), Fatima (10), Shaheen (11), Saba (15), Faraha (16) and son Ahmed (13) sustained serious burns and were rushed to the THQ hospital.

Later, they were referred to Lahore’s Jinnaha Hospital owing to their critical condition where Sonia, Ahmed and Eshrat Bibi were said to be critical.

Pattoki Saddar police arrested one Afzaal Shah, owner of a cylinder shop in Javid Nagar bazaar and registered a case against him.

Illegal filling of LPG cylinders is going unchecked in the tehsil at dozens of spots for the last many years.

Area residents have demanded action against those involved in the risky business.
