SIALKOT, Aug 7: As many as seven villages and the standing crops on hundreds of acres were inundated by the rain and flood water spilling from Aik and Palkhu nullahs on Tuesday.

Deputy District Officer (Revenue) Rana Abdul Shakur told journalists that water from the flooded Aik nullah overflowed near Shatabgarh-Uggoki and Ganjiyaanwali villages, submerging vast tracts of agricultural land.

Similarly, overflowing water from Palkhu nullah inundated over 100 acres of land near Boath, Khuraana, Khaanawali and Daalowali villages.

According to irrigation officials, water level in all the seasonal nullahs, including Aik, Dek, Palkhu, Bhed and Ghug-Bajwat in Sialkot district and Baeen and Bassanter nullahs in Narowal district was rising.

District Coordination Officer Atta Muhammad Khan told journalists that the overall flood situation was under control, and all the departments concerned had already been put on red alert to meet any emergency.

The DCO said the Chenab was in medium-level flood near Head Marala, with 97,000-105,000 cusec water flowing from there.

He said the flood level was continuously rising up in all the rivers, canals, and nullahs in the district due to the fresh spell of heavy rains in the catchment areas in occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

Meanwhile, the DCO visited the flood-hit areas and reviewed the arrangements made by the district administration to minimise losses.

INJURED: At least five people of a family, including three minors, were injured seriously as the roof of their mud-house caved in during torrential rain in Dhera Phookaliyaan village.
