PESHAWAR, Aug 7: The University of Peshawar and the Saga University of Japan signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) here on Tuesday to promote academic and scholarly activities.

Under the MoU, tuition, entrance and examination fees will be mutually exempted for research scholars of both the universities.

The universities agreed to strengthen their ties to boost research and academic activities.

The MoU was signed by University of Peshawar Vice-Chancellor Dr Haroon Rashid and Prof Nakahara Toru of the Saga University on behalf its President Dr Akira Hasegawa.

The two universities decided to encourage exchange of faculty, staff members, students and publications of relevant scholarly information. Under the agreement, three PhD students will be sent to the counterpart institutions annually for up to a year.

The academic credits obtained under the programme will be accredited according to the regulations of the home university.

Earlier, Prof Toru was informed that 104,000 students were enrolled with the University of Peshawar, of whom 24,000 were regular students.

Having six academic faculties and five centres of excellence, it was the only university in the county where education from nursery to Ph D was being given on a sole campus, the vice-chancellor said.—APP
