KARACHI, Aug 4: City police have displayed the results of the written tests conducted for recruitment of constables in the police department at the five headquarters on Saturday.
A centralised board is being constituted to conduct final interviews of the candidates who have passed the written tests. Starting from Monday, the interviews will continue for at least 10 days. The candidates will be called in groups for interviews at the Garden Police headquarters.
Talking to Dawn, DIG Administration Khurram Gulzar said the list of the candidates who had passed the written tests was displayed at each of the five headquarters ie Garden Headquarters, Khawaja Ajmer Nagri Headquarters, Malir Headquarters, Naval Headquarters (West), and East Headquarters (beside Aziz Bhatti police station).
When asked about the number of candidates who appeared and who passed the tests, the DIG said the list was still being compiled and right now he could not give the details.
Mr Gulzar said the centralised board, which would be headed by an SP rank officer, would take final interviews of the candidates after which the recruitment process would be completed and a final list of those being appointed would be displayed.
In the ongoing recruitment process, applications were invited for recruitment in Sindh Police against 3,370 vacancies available across the province. Of 1,475 vacancies in Karachi, 849 for male and 626 for female candidates exist. The department had received a few applications from female candidates after which the separate seats for females and males had been merged, he said.
Well-placed sources in the police department said the entire exercise might face an abrupt suspension as the differences between the ruling coalition partners had developed over the list of recruits provided by them.
Following the reports about conflict between ruling partners over the share of their favourites in appointments in police and various other departments, the Sindh High Court issued a notice to the government on a petition filed by the former City Nazim, Niamatullah Khan, stating that the recruitment on the vacant posts in the provincial government departments were being made on political grounds. He had prayed to the court to declare the recruitment process illegal and unlawful as it was being made by trampling the spirit of merit.
