PESHAWAR, Aug 2: The British army chief of general staff, General Sir Richard Dannatt, visited the North Waziristan tribal region on Thursday. This was the first visit of a foreign military dignitary to the region since militants ended a peace deal with the government.

A press release issued by the Inter Services Public Relations said Gen Dannatt met with officers and troops conducting operation in the area.

Before departure to the region, Gen Dannatt visited headquarters of the 11 Corps in Peshawar and called on Lt-Gen Mohammad Masood Aslam.
