Wapda, NBP qualify for final

LAHORE, July 30: Wapda and National Bank (NBP) qualified for final of women's team event of the 10th Amir Abdullah Khan Rokhri badminton tournament on its opening day here on Monday.

Wapda beat Railways 3-0 in the semi-final.

Aneeqa Rana put Wapda ahead by winning the first singles against Aqsa Razaq 21-15, 21-5. Uzma Butt and Shahnaz Shah doubled the lead by thrashing Yasmeen and Sumaira 21-7, 21-11, while Saima Manzoor beat Salma Sharif 21-8, 21-11 to complete the route.

NBP carved out 3-0 win against Islamabad. Ayesha Akram beat Sidra 21-10, 21-10 in first singles. Ayesha Akram and Palwasha defeated Sidra and Dania 21-13, 21-7 to make it 2-0. Sara Khan earned win against Ayesha 21-12, 21-7 to book a place in the final.

Meanwhile, men’s team event entered into quarter-final stage with teams from Wapda, National Bank, New Khan, Railways, PMAD, Punjab, Sindh and Fata.
