Anthrax not linked to Osama: Bush

Published October 21, 2001

WASHINGTON, Oct 20: Investigators have found no link between the anthrax attacks in the United States and the network of Osama bin Laden, US President George W. Bush said on Saturday.

“We do not yet know who sent anthrax to the United States Capitol, or several different media organizations,” Bush, currently in Shanghai for the Asian-Pacific summit conference, said in a radio address to the nation.

“We do not, at this point, have any evidence linking the anthrax to the terror network that carried out the attacks of September 11.

“We do know that anyone who deliberately delivers anthrax is engaged in a crime and an act of terror, a hateful attempt to harm innocent people and frighten our citizens,” Bush added.

The US Federal Bureau of Investigation said it tracked at least two anthrax-bearing letters to a post office sorting box in New Jersey as a new case of anthrax contamination was reported outside the US.—dpa
