KARACHI, July 30: City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal on Monday handed over two snorkels to the fire department. With the latest addition, the city government’s fire department has three snorkels now to cope with fire incidents in highrises. One snorkel each would be stationed at the Sohrab Goth, Site and Landhi fire brigade stations.
Talking to newsmen, Mr Kamal said each snorkel has capacity of 2,000-litre water and 300-litre foam tank. “All the required facilities, including safety belt, fire box and emergency respiratory equipment, have been made available to the firemen along with these snorkels,” he said.
The first snorkel, with 100-foot-high reach, was purchased by the defunct KMC and the new snorkels procured by the city district government have 150-foot-high access.
Meanwhile, the city nazim accepted an invitation to ‘Meet the Press’ programme of Karachi Press Club.
Talking to a delegation of Karachi Press Club, led by Secretary Imtiaz Faran, the nazim said the city government was giving top priority to public-private partnership in every sector and asked for suggestions to solve the problems faced by citizens. He assured them that the government would consider their suggestions for implementation regarding the welfare of KPC members and journalists.
The city government will start a water supply project in Esa Nagri, UC-4, Gulshan-i-Iqbal Town costing Rs10 million.
The project, which includes the laying of 14,000-foot 6-inch diameter and 22,600-foot 4-inch diameter pipelines and the repair of two pumping stations, will be completed in less than six months.
After the completion of this project, 3.5 million residents of Esa Nagri will get a new water supply system.
Addressing the foundation laying ceremony of the project the city nazim said that the present leadership had initiated revamping of the water and sewerage system in the city.—PPI
