Varsity employees stage demo

MUZAFFARABAD, March 9: Around 250 members of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir University Administrative Staff Association (ASA), an organization of the university’s non-gazetted employees, observed a pen-down strike and staged a demonstration on Thursday to press the administration to accept their demands.

The demonstration was held in front of Vice-Chancellor Khalil Ahmed Qureshi’s office in the new campus.

Speaking on the occasion, ASA President Abdul Karim Qureshi criticized the administration for delay in acceptance of the workers’ demands. He was particularly critical of the non-inclusion of the issues in the agenda of the university syndicate meeting.

During the demonstration, University Registrar Mukhtar Ahmed came out of his office and invited the ASA leaders to hold talks with the administration. The employees stressed that the VC should speak to them.
