KARACHI, July 29: The provincial chief of Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal, MNA Asadullah Bhutto, has said that the rulers should step down as they have lost reason to rule the country after the reinstatement of Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry.

Talking to a delegation on Sunday, he said that those holding secret meetings with dictators to get power had created hopelessness in nation and damaged the movement for restoration of democracy.

Mr Bhutto said the MMA would unite the opposition on the All Pakistan Democratic Movement platform and launch a movement to end autocracy and rid the country of foreign agents.

Despite the large budget allocations, he said, the government had miserly failed to provide safety of life and property to citizens and solve their problems.

He said the devastation after Oct 12th earthquake and recent heavy rains and floods exposed the government’s performance. Awaiting government relief, many families were still living under open sky, he added.

The MMA leader said a conspiracy was being hatched to create a gulf between army and public. Neutral and transparent elections would be impossible in the presence of military rulers, he said, adding that a caretaker setup is must to hold free and fair elections. —PPI
