ISLAMABAD, March 9: The proceeds of “United for Peace” concert held at the Islamabad College for Girls last fall were presented to the UN at a ceremony here on Saturday.

Salman Ahmed of Junoon delivered the first instalment of funds raised for Afghan refugees and internally displaced persons to the UN Information Centre director, Eric Falt.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Falt said the concert was an independent event meant to raise funds for Afghans. The proceeds, amounting to Rs600,000, would be deposited in the UN Trust Fund in Geneva for Afghan refugee welfare activities.

Mr Ahmed said the contribution may only be a drop in the ocean but it signified the brotherly love of Pakistan for the people of Afghanistan. He thanked all the stars who participated in the event to make the event a success.

During the presentation at UNIC, a four minute clip of Junoon’s video entitled “Jazba-e-Junoon,” with excerpts of the band’s performance at the UN Headquarters in New York was also shown.
