LAHORE, July 26: A 20-year-old married woman was found dead under mysterious circumstances in Shalamar on Thursday. The in-laws of Saba said she had hanged herself after quarrelling with her husband, Mudassir, but investigation police suspected that she had been murdered.

Mudassir and Saba contracted a love-marriage two-and-a-half years ago and had a son. Mudassir works in a wire factory in Shalamar.

Shalamar police station investigation in charge Fiaz Hameed told Dawn a neighbour of Mudassir, of Ghosia Colony, gave a call to 15 emergency police that Saba had been found dead at the house.

He said the police arrived at the crime scene and interrogated Mudassir and his parents for not informing the police about Saba’s death.

Mudassir and his parents claimed Saba had locked herself in her room after an argument and hanged herself with a ceiling fan.

Fiaz said the woman had neck injuries but there were no marks on the ceiling fan.

Police said the family had refused autopsy of the body.
