Beckham struggles to get fit

LOS ANGELES, July 25: England star David Beckham, struggling to recover from a left ankle injury, was left out of the Los Angeles Galaxy lineup here Tuesday for the US club's Superliga match against Mexico's Pachuca.

Beckham made his debut for the Galaxy here last Saturday, playing 12 minutes as a substitute in a 1-0 friendly loss to English side Chelsea.

Beckham missed Monday training, leading to his benching for the Pachuca match, the first in a new event involving US and Mexican teams.

Galaxy coach Frank Yallop had said Beckham was unlikely to play Tuesday but was more confident Beckham will play Saturday for the Galaxy's next Superliga match against Chivas Guadalajara at the huge Los Angeles Coliseum.
