MANDI BAHAUDDIN, July 25: A police constable was run over and killed and another injured by a hit-and-run wagon driver near Chak No 31 around 11pm on Tuesday. Reports said two Miana Gondal police station constables, Tasawar Shahzad and Ghulam Dastagir, were wheeling towards Tibba Saeed Muhammad by a motorcycle on routine duty when they signalled a speeding wagon to stop. Driver Fazal Abbas Shah, however, accelerated and knocked down the two policemen who suffered grievous injuries.

Tasawar succumbed to injuries within minutes while Ghulam Dastagir was taken to the District Headquarters Hospital where he is fighting for life.

On information, a Kuthiala Sheikhan police team chased and arrested the absconder.

The funeral prayers for Tasawar Shahzad, who was scheduled to tie the knot next month, was held in the police lines. DPO Dr Akhtar Abbas and other senior officers attended it.

SHOT DEAD: A middle-aged man was shot dead by unidentified people at Mauza Burj Agra on Tuesday night.

Allah Yar, 35, left his house for a walk but was shot dead, his wife said. On her complaint, the Kuthiala Sheikhan police registered a blind murder case.
