PESHAWAR, July 25: The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) is likely to recognise the Gomal Medical College (GMC) and Saidu Medical College (SMC) next month, it is learnt.

The newly-established Khyber Medical University (KMU) would take control of the Gomal Medical College (GMC) and Saidu Medical College (SMC) soon, sources said.

A PMDC team had visited the colleges a week back and expressed their satisfaction over the infrastructure and available facilities, they said.

“Once the PMDC recognises the GMC and the SMC, then the KMU would take control of both,” the sources said. Presently, the GMC is being overlooked by the KMC and the SMC by the Malakand University.

Sources said KMU officials had started visiting its affiliated medical colleges to take stock of the situation there and provide facilities, such as provision of staff, equipments, books, etc.

“We have visited the KMC and Ayub Medical College (AMC) in Abbottabad. Now, we would be chalking out the programme of fulfilling the academic needs of both colleges,” sources said.

The KMU has also started arrangements to hold its maiden Senate meeting, notifying 11 persons. Sources further revealed that members of the syndicate had been sent to the governor for approval. After approval, further deliberation regarding the KMU would get underway, they added.

The KMU administration has also finalised arrangements for holding examinations of its affiliated colleges in December this year. Controller Examinations has already been appointed whereas his deputy is being recruited, they added.

Within the next two months, a full-fledged examination system would be put in place and the KMU would hold the examinations of all its affiliated medical colleges that were until now being conducted by the University of Peshawar.
